Partner Alexandra A.E. Shapiro Selected as President of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers
On February 28, 2014, the Board of Directors of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers (“NYCDL”) elected partner Alexandra A.E. Shapiro to a two-year term as President of the organization. The NYCDL is a not-for-profit professional association with a membership of about 250 lawyers whose principal area of practice is the defense of criminal cases, particularly in the federal courts in New York. Many of the NYCDL’s members are former Assistant United States Attorneys in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Ms. Shapiro served on the NYCDL’s Board of Directors from 2006 to 2008, as co-Chair of the organization’s Amicus Committee from 2005 to 2010, as Secretary-Treasurer from 2011 to 2012, and as Vice President from January 2013 to February 2014. She has authored numerous NYCDL amicus briefs, several of which have been cited in decisions issued by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
