Second Circuit Grants Bail to Shapiro Arato Client Pending Appeal of Insider Trading Case
On February 2, 2016, a three-judge panel of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the release of our client, Douglas Whitman, on bail pending the appeal of a decision denying him post-conviction relief from his conviction for insider trading. Mr. Whitman is appealing a district court decision denying his motion for habeas relief based on a claim that his conviction is invalid under the Second Circuit’s landmark decision in U.S. v. Newman.
Alexandra Shapiro is working on the case together with co-counsel Dennis Riordan and Theodore Sampsell-Jones. All three were named among Law360’s “Legal Lions” of the week for this result.
