In January 12, 2011, the members of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers (“NYCDL”) elected partner Alexandra A.E. Shapiro to a two-year term as Secretary-Treasurer of the organization. The NYCDL is a not-for-profit professional association with a membership of about 200 lawyers whose principal area of practice is the defense of criminal cases, particularly in the federal courts in New York. Many of the NYCDL’s members are former Assistant United States Attorneys in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Ms. Shapiro served on the NYCDL’s Board of Directors from 2006 to 2008 and as co-Chair of the organization’s Amicus Committee from 2005 to 2010. She has authored numerous NYCDL amicus briefs, several of which have been cited in decisions issued by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
